What You'll Need

To complete this project, you will need the following resources:

1. How to Create an Ink Brush in Photoshop

Step 1

First, to create an ink wash brush in Photoshop, make a new canvas, and drop in an image of an ink or watercolor stroke. The color doesn't matter, just that it has a white background.

water color stroke

Step 2

Create a white to black Gradient Map adjustment layer, which will turn the image greyscale.

greyscale brush stroke

Step 3

Next, create a Levels adjustment layer above the gradient map layer.

Use this layer to increase the contrast of the image so that the ink becomes darker and the background becomes pure white.

darken brush stroke

Step 4

If needed, create a new layer above both adjustment layers, keeping it set to Normal. Using a combination of both a hard and soft round Brush, paint white in the areas that still need to be hidden, like the paper texture on the background.

This particular image does not need it.

Step 5

Finally, go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. If the option is greyed out, simply Right-Click > Merge Visible all of your layers, and then shrink the canvas down to 3000 px wide and try again.

You can use your brush by selecting the Brush Tool and going into The Brush Preset Picker. It will appear below all previous brush presets.

define brush preset

Step 6

Create a second and third set of more textured ink blot Photoshop brushes by hiding the levels layer and repeating the above steps!

Create as many brushes as you'd like. I made two more for a total of three.

2. How to Create an Ink Wash Text Effect

Step 1

Once you've finished creating your ink blot Photoshop brushes, open a new canvas, and type out your text using a thick or brush stroke font in black.

brush stroke font

Step 2

Add a Layer Mask to the text. Using one of your ink brushes set to black, mask out portions of the text. I used the lighter of the three brushes I made earlier.

mask out text

Step 3

Next, create a New Layer below your text. Paint solid black strokes of ink using your new brushes, making them look as if the ink is bleeding and flowing from the text.

add brush strokes

Step 4

Drag and drop a wrinkled paper image under your text, changing the layer mode to Pin Light. Turn the image greyscale with Image > Adjustment > Black & White. This will give you a very light paper grid texture.

Feel free to experiment with different layer modes on different color backgrounds!

add paper texture background

3. How to Use Gradient Maps in Photoshop

Step 1

Looking for a quick and easy way to create a colored ink effect? Try gradient maps!

Open up the Adjustments panel by going to  Window > Adjustments. Choose Gradient Map, placing it above all other layers.

add color with gradient maps

Step 2

Double-click the gradient in the Gradient Map's Properties panel. Open the Reds preset folder, choosing the first preset.

Instant colored ink! You can experiment with all of the other colored presets as well.

Conclusion

And that's all there is to creating an ink splash brush in Photoshop! Create your very own set of Photoshop brushes for inking, perfect for text, images, and graphics. Don't forget to add a quick splash of color using gradient maps!

How to Build Routines that Keep Your Life and Work On Track

Posted: 11 Dec 2020 05:55 AM PST

If you think depending on routines will turn you into a boring, predictable, uncreative automaton, think again. Routines are the secret weapon of creative professionals and have been for centuries.

Build Strong Routines
To be productive, make sure your routines are sound. (Image source: Envato Elements)

Poet W.H. Auden recommended a routine approach

"Decide what you want or ought to do with the day, then always do it at exactly the same moment every day, and passion will give you no trouble."

Plenty of other creatives, from writers to artists to composers and filmmakers, have depended on sturdy, predictable daily routines to provide a safe place for their creativity to expand. (For a closer look, check out Mason Currey's blog and book, Daily Routines.)

Philosopher William James posited that habits and routines free our brains from continual small decisions, so we can more easily develop and use "our higher powers of mind." Using routines is a matter of allocating resources. Research shows us that willpower, like a muscle, gets tired when used

When you have to really think about what to eat for breakfast, which route you'll take to work, and when you'll exercise today, you're using up a lot of your creative willpower on mundane decisions. Instead, if you set up your routines to pilot you through repetitive tasks, you can let your mind wander, ponder, muse, and percolate with great ideas. It's easier to jump into doing, creating, and problem-solving with a full tank of willpower at your disposal.

1. Choose Routines to Stabilize Your Life

The desire to become more productive is usually focused, rightly so, on our work. However, by using routines for your personal life, you can simplify and stabilize it. That way, you're dealing with less stress and less complication, without missing important interactions, ignoring relationships, or neglecting your priorities.

Small crisis moments in personal, family, social, and home life often come from forgetting or neglecting tasks. Think about the pain of rushing to do taxes, forgetting a birthday or anniversary, or double-booking your calendar. Routines ensure that you do what needs to be done on a regular basis so you can avoid those moments of crisis.

Here are some examples of helpful life routines:

  • Morning and Evening Routine: If your mornings are chaotic, frenzied times of rushing around the house, trying to find a clean shirt, a decent breakfast, and the stuff you need for your day, this set of bookend routines might be just what you need. Imagine waking up in time to get ready without hurrying, having the day's outfit hanging in the bathroom, a breakfast ready in the refrigerator, and a bag with your necessities waiting by the front door. You can make it happen by planning a few simple steps you take each evening before bed to prepare for the next day (your evening routine) and then putting a simple, adequately timed morning routine in place.
  • Weekend Routine: Having a weekend routine can help you plan for and handle all the home projects, errands and shopping, family time and personal time that you need to fit into two short days. By setting up a weekend routine, you can plan and prioritize how you'll spend your time, ensuring you get the necessary chores and tasks done without feeling like you have no play time or rest time.
  • Family Meeting: A weekly family meeting can help you keep calendars in sync, plan financial decisions, assign shared responsibilities, and stay connected with the busy members of your family. It could be just you and your partner, going over the budget and the calendar, or you can include your kids in this routine so you can all give input and stay on track with each other.

 2. Choose Routines to Improve Your Work

Now it's time to think about how you can increase your productivity, lower your stress, and boost your creative output with some work-oriented routines. Even if you work in a creative field, or if your work responsibilities vary wildly from one day to the next, there are still ways to streamline work with routines.

Here are a few examples of effective work routines:

  • Starting Ritual: Getting started at work is often the hardest part. Spending an hour on social media, idly chatting with coworkers, or getting lost in the endless stream of email is not a productive starting ritual. If you deal with big projects, creative tasks, or, really, anything more complex than tying your shoes, you need to have a quick, dependable way to get yourself in gear and going for the day. Design a starting routine, then follow it consistently, to train your brain to start without the hesitation and procrastination you might struggle to overcome now.
  • Weekly Priorities Routine: Setting priorities regularly, with input from the people involved, helps you allocate your time wisely for the most effective output. Maybe you juggle a lot of projects, manage a team with varied responsibilities, or have to handle clients, accounts, or a slew of responsibilities that defy corralling in a neat, repeatable, time-bound plan. Set up a regular routine (weekly is usually good) to get a top-down view, determine which tasks merit the most attention, block time for what you want to accomplish, and give and get input as needed.
  • Communication Routine: Doing collaborative work, sharing responsibilities and projects with a team, or dealing with clients creates the need for dependable communication. But back-and-forth email conversations or games of phone tag can eat up valuable work time. By creating a communication routine, you become predictable to the folks who need to hear from you, which makes it easier for them to stay in touch, too. Designate a certain time, daily, to answer non-urgent emails, return calls, and otherwise update your co-workers and clients. A communication routine can keep you from forgetting to communicate regularly and, also, keep you from having your day hijacked by an unending stream of questions and clarifications.
  • Follow Up Routine: Building strong relationships, whether with your peers, your team members, or your clients, is key to doing good work now and creating good opportunities for the future. There's a fine line, though, between proactive networking online and wasting hours on social media. A follow up routine can help you streamline your networking activities, whether via social media, email, phone, or in-person meetings.

To decide which work routine you should establish first, ask yourself which tasks or goals you struggle most to accomplish. Those areas are the ones that will benefit most from a strong, supporting routine.

3. Design a Solid Routine

From these examples, a few routines might stand out to you. Often, the most appealing routines are the ones that would apply to the most chaotic areas of your life and work. It's not enough, however, to have a general idea of a routine in mind, or to copy someone else's routine. You're unique, and your life is your own. To build a routine that works for you, get really specific.

Start With the End Goal

What is this routine going to accomplish for you? Each routine, to be most effective, needs to be built for a specific purpose. For example, the goal of morning/evening routines might be to get you out of the house each morning in an organized, unhurried, healthy way. The goal of a starting ritual at work might be to help you make significant progress on your main project or task before midday. First, define the end goal before you start designing your routine.

Work Backwards

Next, start from your end goal, and work backwards to determine what steps belong in your routine. Estimate how much time each step will require. Streamline as much as possible, but don't force yourself to hurry. It's best to overestimate the time you think you'll need at this point. You can always reduce it later.

Walk Through It

Next, mentally walk through your routine from beginning to end. This mental walk-through will help you see steps or necessary resources that you might have overlooked. You can also look for ways to simplify. Cut out any redundant steps. Complication is the enemy: the best routines are easy to remember and as simple as possible. Order the steps for your routine in the most logical way, but don't worry about reaching perfection. You'll have time to tweak it after you've tried out your routine a few times.

4. Start Using Your New Routines

Focus on building no more than two routines at a time. More than two will get confusing and exhausting, and the attempt will become counterproductive. One approach is to choose one life routine and one work routine to establish at the same time. Seeing increased efficiency in both your personal life and your career at the same time is nice, and helps minimize confusion or overlap since each routine belongs to a different part of your life.

It takes time to build a routine. It might take more than 21 days to make it stick. Research shows that the time needed to build a solid habit can vary widely, from 21 days to upwards of 250 days

The time you need to make your routine automatic will vary according to the complexity of the routine as well as other factors, such as your personality, stress level, and support. Give yourself at least 30 days to build a new routine, or set of routines; at the 30-day mark, you can evaluate if you've established your routine well enough to build another, or if you need to stay focused on the current routine for another 30 days or so.

5. Improve Your Routines

When you first start using a new routine, expect resistance...from yourself, mostly. Anything that requires change and increased self-discipline will feel uncomfortable, maybe even painful, at first. Don't mistake discomfort, lack of familiarity, or difficulty as a sign that your routine is bad or incomplete. Certainly all routines can be improved, but if you start tweaking your routine too soon, it will never become habitual.

Try to stick with a new routine, as is, for at least a week before you make changes. After a week, consider the small tweaks that might improve your routine: rearranging the order, improving methods, changing the designated amount of time, adding or subtracting a step, or reorganizing the space or resources. After you've tweaked your routine, stick with it another week before you change it again.

Once you feel confident with a routine and ready to start building another, try to leave the established routine alone. Tweaking an established routine while building a new routine (or two) can quickly lead to a pile-up of small changes and the disintegration of the stability you've gained from your routines.

The power of a routine is in the fact that it becomes routine: you want it to be a default set of actions, second nature, a set of steps that you don't have to think about. If you continually tweak and adjust your routines, you limit the benefits of that routines power. If you find it hard to resist continually tweaking routines, then schedule it. Assign one day each month, or one week each quarter, to play with tweaking and improving routines. The rest of the time, let your routines be routine and do their magical work, so you don't have to.

6. Maintain Your Routines

Some routines will serve you well for a long time; others will need to be adjusted, rearranged, or even discarded as the needs of your life and work change. If you get promoted, for example, and trade one set of tasks for another, your old routines may no longer be helpful. You'll need to look at your new responsibilities and think about how you'll accomplish them in the most streamlined and effective way.

Whenever you approach a major life or work change, take a little time to think about how your routines will be affected. The routines which don't have to be changed will help you stay grounded and effective as you deal with the stress of newness and change. Evaluate the routines which must change to fit your new situation, and follow the steps above to build new routines to replace the old, out-dated ones.

Let Routines Do the Work

Routines are magical because they are calm, mundane, predictable, even a little boring. It's the boring repetition of a strong routine that keeps you grounded, enabling you to function effectively, even in the midst of chaos, a crazy work load, an unpredictable environment,   demanding clients, or other situational stressors.

Routines in your life and your work allow you to follow well-placed tracks straight to the end goals you've chosen for yourself. They free up your creative power and self-discipline to be spent on higher, creative pursuits, while keeping the daily stuff of life in dependable working order.

5 Quick PowerPoint Fishbone Diagram Presentation Design Tips for 2020/2021

It's time to make your selected template look great. Here are five tips to help you get started:

1. Summarize

PowerPoint Fishbone Diagram Download
PowerPoint Fishbone Diagram Download, a premium template on Envato Elements

As you may have noticed, the minute you add a fishbone diagram to a slide, there isn't much space for lengthy text. Summarize to short and punchy sentences or use keywords. Your cause and effect slide will look neat and will carry a strong message.

2. Go for Contrast

Contrast is an essential element in the principle of design. The best thing about going premium is all these design principles will be taken care of by experts. All you'd have to do is add your content, make minor brand identity changes, and you're all set to present. If you're using a free template from the web, be sure to check out this article:

3. Go Minimal

Ishikawa & Fishbone - Cause and Effect Diagram Template PPT a premium template on Envato Elements

Avoid clutter to create professional and non-distracting slides. Clean and minimal are always the best approach to take. Here are a few tips to follow:

  • Use large text and images.
  • Use limited elements on each slide.
  • Use plenty of white space between each element.
  • Stick to a few colors on each slide.

4. Use Animations and Transitions

Animations and transitions help make presentations lively and fun. Break down complex infographics and phase them in stages. This allows your audience to focus better. But too many animations and transitions can distract your audience. Check out these articles and learn how to use them the right way:

5. Mix It Up

INFOGRAPHIC - Multipurpose Powerpoint V174
INFOGRAPHIC - Multipurpose PowerPoint V174, a premium template from Envato Elements with loads of infographics

An entire presentation of the same fishbone diagrams can get boring. Mix things up a bit by using a variety of infographics, visuals, and media elements. Here's a simple rule to remember: don't use the same format more than twice in a presentation. What do you do if you've no choice and your entire presentation is about cause and effects? Use different looking diagrams to present your data.

What Is Expressive Typography?

Posted: 11 Dec 2020 04:00 AM PST

In this tutorial, we'll look at how to express emotion through typography by exploring the premise of expressive typography. These techniques can help you make stronger font choices and more communicative design choices, too. We'll take a look at some expressive typography examples and explore how you can use these concepts in your own work.

What Is Expressive Typography?

Expressive typography merges the use of type with visual communication—and often takes it much further than we would see in everyday typography. The type itself fully embraces itself as a highly visual medium. Think of it as type that not only says words but also communicates concepts too, with highly visual representation.

expressive type examples
Expressive type example using the font Wedges Rounded by DmLetter

Many expressive typography examples are strictly type—no color, no imagery, only the font choice, scale, proximity, and shape. Others incorporate additional elements of art and principles of design, as we will here. Some fonts are very expressive fonts too, and will inherently have strong communicative elements as part of their design.

While this might sound experimental and even impractical, all type has the potential to be expressive and communicative. This is why expressive typography, as a concept, is a valuable one for designers to explore. It's an especially useful concept if you're a new designer, as it can be very tempting to choose fonts based on whether or not they "look cool" or are trendy at the moment.

That's not to say aesthetics and trends aren't important to professional designers—they are. However, designers speak the language of form. Our profession is often about communicating in strategic ways. Think of the principles of design as a language. We can use these tools to "say" or craft a visual narrative that meets a specific objective.

Let's take a look at some expressive typography examples and how these concepts apply.

expressive typography example
Handwritten Font Summer by WildOnes

This type literally says "quiet". However, notice how the visual qualities here also reinforce the idea of what quiet "is" in a visual way. For example:

  • This is really low in contrast. The background is white, and the text itself is a very light gray. It makes its appearance look "quiet", like a whisper.
  • The font itself is very thin and light in weight. Again, this gives it a softer presence.
  • There's a lot of space between each letter. This also adds to the visual concept of quiet. Notice how airy it makes the text "feel".

Let's take this concept and take it in a different direction.

Brush Font Ocean Rush by TheBrandedQuotes
Brush Font Ocean Rush by TheBrandedQuotes

Does this visually "feel" quiet or like a whisper to you anymore? Chances are, the answer is no. Let's take a look at why:

  • Now, the text is higher in contrast. Bright red text on white can really "scream" at the viewer. It's not delicate or gentle.
  • The font is thick, bold, and heavy—these are not traits most people would normally associate with quiet.
  • The strokes are really energetic. There's so much movement and power in the way it looks like jagged brush strokes.

This text might say the word quiet, but it's hardly quiet in how it visually communicates now. We could argue that it says quiet, but it actually communicates something more like "loud".

That's not to say that this second example is fundamentally wrong. Sometimes, visually communicating the opposite can be really effective. We can use strategies like this to make an ironic statement or to visually communicate complex subjects.

Let's take a look at this idea in action.

expressive type display font
Funcy Kids Playful Display Font by StringLabs

Here's the word "scary", but take a moment to think about how it's been visually communicated here.

  • The text is very round and plush looking. This gives it a certain playfulness, doesn't it? It almost looks like long balloons, like the kind we'd see in balloon animals.
  • Color has been generously applied here. The result is a bunch of mismatching colors, which really lends itself to an informal or even youthful aesthetic.
  • The baseline is wobbly and inconsistent. This furthers the informal and bouncy look and feel in the text here.

So, is this text visually scary? Would you associate this text with something like a horror film or an intense drama? We might be able to associate this with clowns... we've created some kind of contradictory message here. There's something childlike about this type.

And that's why understanding the expressive qualities of type is so important. Your choice of font can have a huge impact on how the text itself visually communicates. Then, we can push that even further with other design principles that we opt to apply to our text.

Let's try pushing this in the opposite direction.

expressive typography examples
Scratch Handmade Font by ThinkMake

Now, this is looking a lot more like something we'd expect to see in a scary movie title. Isn't it interesting how this solution is similar to our example for "quiet" too? Scary things can lurk in the quiet of darkness—but "quiet" does not necessarily have to be "scary".

Think about what makes this effective (or ineffective). How would you change this example, and how does it visually communicate to you?

How to Express Emotion Through Typography

Emotion is a big part of visual communication—but how do we express it? Let's consider this question with an abstract example. What does "expensive" look like?

Let's say, for example, that you need to design a logo for the concept of "expensive". The logo itself should say the word "expensive", but it needs to visually communicate the concept too. What perspective would you take?

Here's an example, for your consideration.

expressive fonts
Morton Grotesque Font Family by crftsco

Ignore that the type reads "expensive". Instead, let's review what about this, from a visual perspective, communicates the concept of what expensive means.

  • The font itself is quite bold and domineering. It feels reminiscent of something that might say "BALANCE DUE".
  • The color choice is intense. Red can often be associated with an important warning. We often see red on street signs, too.
  • The way the text sits is very uniform, very stiff.

You might think this isn't a very successful example of expressive typography. However, consider how this might visually communicate. It looks like some kind of stamp of disapproval, doesn't it?

"Expensive", to some audiences, might mean just that—something out of reach, depressing, and foreboding—something to avoid. If your rent is too expensive, it might actually feel a lot like how this type looks.

expressive type
Deluce Elegant Font by craftsupplyco

Here's the same text with the same objective—but it illustrates an entirely different message. In this case, the text looks glamorous and wealthy. We see "expensive" illustrated in a way that makes it look appealing, desirable, and full of energy.

  • The text itself has delicate serifs. The length also has a classy look and feel.
  • There's color and texture here that has a visual association with wealth. Gold and metallics tend to evoke those emotions.
  • Similar to the previous example, the text is large, stiff, and a little ominous. It feels "big", but notice how the vibe is entirely different.

And that's a big deal here—neither of these examples are wrong, but the emotions they convey are very different. When you approach design—whether it is typographic or otherwise—it's important to consider what you aim to communicate and how you plan to do it.

Here are a couple of different examples of the word "expensive" used differently and paired with different imagery. How do you think they visually communicate? Think about this in terms of the type itself and how the imagery adds to the message.

The Elements of Art & Principles of Design

Why do these expressive typography examples communicate the way they do, and how do we craft a narrative of our own? The answer lies with the elements of art and principles of design. For example, here's a small selection of them:

  • Line is inherently expressive. Think about a straight line versus a wavy line. One is still, one has movement. That movement could be soft curves, sharp lines, and much more.
  • Shape tends to have many preconceived ideas. For example, what shape do you associate with a coffee cup?
  • Color is very communicative and tends to have a host of associations. What color is a sunny day? What color is sadness?
  • Scale refers to the relative size. For example, something large and imposing communicates every differently than something small and quiet.

Here's an example of Proximity, another principle of design. Proximity refers to the relationship between different parts of the design.

expressive typography examples
This expressive type example was made using Bold Scribble font by yandidesigns.

Our word here is "broken", but notice how we can reposition the letters to make the word itself appear broken. Expressive type and expressing emotion through our design work isn't exclusively about font choice or color. We can use our entire arsenal of design techniques to create visual experiences that express and evoke emotion.

Learning From Expressive Typography Examples

One of the best ways to learn about design and become a better design is to challenge yourself. You don't need to take a formal class to take on a challenge and push your skills further.

expressive font
Expressive type example using the font Stickler Modern by webhance

If you're looking for an assignment, take this list of words and experiment with visually communicating their definition. Or, for an extra challenge, try communicating the opposite.

  • Organic. What colors do you think of when you hear this word? What kind of shapes, lines, and contours?
  • Energetic. If you had to draw an energetic line, what would it look like? What are energetic colors to you?
  • Peaceful. When you think of peaceful, what do you visualize? Think of shapes, colors, and objects too.
  • Loyal. This one is a little more abstract. What's a loyal color or a loyal shape? How could you visually express loyalty?

You can keep your concepts simple or really go over the top with color, texture, shape, and more. Here's a simple example of this exercise, using the word "disconnect". It's not a complex solution, but it visually communicates what the word means.

expressive font
Expressive typography words using the font Stickler Modern by webhance

The interesting thing is: these exercises directly relate to so many types of design. For example, let's say you've been hired to design a logo. That logo needs to visually communicate the heart of a brand with very little real estate. Every part of that logo should be purposeful—you need to express a lot and evoke emotion in one mark. We can practice this concept by designing for keywords, like the list above.

Check out this sample typographic logo design. What do you think it visually communicates?

Expressive Type Logo
Vintage Camp Logo by JeksonJS.

Notice how the type is long and tall, much like the tree icon beside it. It's stacked together and placed on something that looks like signage—something we might expect to see at a campsite. These choices are deliberate visual associations.

But this isn't just about logos. It applies to book covers, headlines, and even body copy. Now, we don't want the copy in a book to be expressive in an exaggerated way. However, the type itself still has visual qualities. Think about it: a sans serif can evoke a different mood than a serif font.

expressive fonts
Artifex Serif font by connary and George Round Sans Serif by NEWFLIX

Here's the same simple layout with two different fonts applied. They have a different look and a different feel. Depending on the subject matter and the objective, one could prove to be a much more successful solution than the other.

The Subjectivity of Expressive Type

Expressive type can be a really fun subject, especially if you're exploring and experimenting on your own. It's a great way to learn how to visually communicate, because one of the easiest audiences to communicate with is ourselves. We know what preconceived ideas of our own we associate with specific colors, shapes, and imagery.

expressive type examples
Expressive typography words using the font Stickler Modern by webhance

However, this is where things get complicated. In most professional settings, the target audience is not the designer themselves. We tend to design for a specific audience. While some communicative aspects might feel universal, others are more subjective. The above example is a good example of a simple word with a simple, expressive idea. The "i" is literally "missing".

However, different people often have different preconceived ideas, especially when the subject is more complicated. This can be based on a whole host of factors, including location, culture, language, experiences, economics, personal preference, and more. For example, someone who lives in the southern hemisphere would have different associations with December than someone in the northern hemisphere. They each experience the seasons differently.

expressive typography examples
These expressive typography words created with Snowy Season Font by Tokokoo and Summer Flash Font by khurasan

This is why it's important to know your target audience when you take on a design project.

If you're designing for yourself, you are the target audience. This is arguably one of the easiest audiences to design for—but that's not to say that designing for yourself isn't important. It can be an excellent way to learn how to be a stronger communicator. It's also a great way to express yourself!

Analyzing Type Through an Expressive Lens

So we've discussed the question "What is expressive typography?" Let's take a look at some fonts and analyze what their expressive qualities might be. A process like this can be helpful when it comes to selecting fonts for your projects.

Again, this could be subjective and vary depending on the audience—so feel free to draw your own conclusions. All fonts are essentially expressive fonts in some way, as they all communicate in some way, shape, or form.

Script Fonts: Elegant, Romantic, Delicate

This font has long, pretty strokes with delicate curves. It gives it an elegant, romantic aesthetic. Something like this could be a great choice for invitations, beauty products, stationery, and much more. Dress it up in gold or try applying watercolor textures to it. What does it make you think of?

Helegra Beauty Font Script
Helegra Beauty Font Script by Vunira

Hand-Drawn Fonts: Welcoming, Humanizing, Friendly

We have an informal aesthetic here, although it still has a rather bookish vibe. It's too informal for something like a law firm or government agency—where we'd expect to see something far more formal and rigid. This could be more successful in a library or classroom.

Imani Serif Hand Drawn Font
Imani Serif Hand Drawn Font by daisyein

Geometric Fonts: Futuristic, Sleek, Stylish

The rounded, geometric aesthetic here lends itself to a futuristic feeling. Notice how some parts of the letters have been cut out, but it doesn't necessarily hurt our ability to know what the letters are. This one could be a great fit on a book cover, album design, or on a T-shirt.

Eva Futuristic Typeface

Display Fonts: Playful, Whimsical, Youthful

Isn't this a fun, playful aesthetic? The variation here gives it a touch of whimsy. Presentation means a lot too—the varied colors here make it look more youthful and at home in a child-friendly environment. Imagine this one on the front of a children's book or at a bake sale.

Routiey Angguer Handwritten Font

Ornate Fonts: Fantastical, Historic, Decorative

There's an ornate, fantasy feeling to this font family. There are so many beautiful decorations in the letterforms. However, the aesthetic itself is rather vintage, giving it an aged feel. This one could work well for the fantasy genre, specific genres of music, metaphysical goods, and much more.
