10 Best Android Game Templates Posted: 23 Dec 2020 09:30 AM PST If you are familiar with the Android SDK, you probably know that using it to create a new game from scratch is no mean feat. Choosing the right game engine, supporting multiple screen sizes and DPIs, implementing error-free gameplay, and managing player data are all demanding tasks that can take days, if not weeks, to complete. Thankfully, there's CodeCanyon, an online marketplace that, among other things, is teeming with well-thought-out game templates. By using one or more of those templates, you can skip most of the tedious aspects of game development and focus only on the bits that are unique to your game. In this article, I'm going to introduce you to some of the most feature-rich and awesome Android game templates available on CodeCanyon.
Android Game Templates on CodeCanyonThere are currently over 1000 premium Android game templates available on CodeCanyon. All of them offer free updates for lifetime and 6 months of support. Besides original ideas, you can easily find clones of popular games and customize them to create your own unique version. The prices for some of the templates are as low as $5. Don't miss out on the chance to save a lot of your time and money. 1. Zumbla DeluxeZumbla Deluxe, developed by gradle, is a recently launched Android game template you can use to create beautiful tile-matching games. If you think there are enough match-three and puzzle games available on Google Play already, I'm sure you'll change your mind once you take a look at the template's rather unique graphics and game mechanics. Right out of the box, the games you build with Zumbla Deluxe will conform to both the marble shooter and match-three game genres. If you're not satisfied with the default Mayan-inspired sprites they use, you can effortlessly reskin them to match your preferences. 2. Block PuzzleBlock Puzzle is another Android game template developed by gradle. As you may have guessed by looking at the screenshot above, this template is ideal for creating simple yet addictive Tetris clones. The template comes with smooth animations, colorful graphics, and awesome sound effects, all of which are easy to customize so long as you're familiar with Android Studio. Additionally, Block Puzzle has support for AdMob ads built right into it. Therefore, you should have no trouble adding banner or interstitial ads to the games you build with it. 3. This means that even after publishing your games, you can continue to add more content to them, thus minimizing uninstall rates. The template also supports in-app purchases, push notifications, and analytics. 5. Slot Machine DeluxeSlot machine games are highly addictive and can be extremely profitable. They also have zero learning curve. With the Slot Machine Deluxe template, developed by Droid_Coder, you can create games in this genre in a matter of minutes. Because this template is built using the native Android SDK, you can be sure that the games you create with it will have optimal performance with smooth animations on all devices running Android 4.4 or higher. The admin panel is built using Laravel and notifications, authorization and leaderboard data is handled by Firebase. Here are a few more features of the game:
9. JumperJumper is an addictive arcade game similar to Doodle Jump. The aim of the game is for the players to keep jumping from one platform to another. You have to get as high as possible. You can tweak a lot of things within the game as a developer. For example, it is possible to change the types of vehicles and add other objects like trees in the game screen. The game comes uses inbuilt device accelerometer to move the car around. Some other features of the template include:
You can read more about the game and its features on the description page. Tips for Finding the Right Game TemplateAs I mentioned earlier, there are over 1000 Android game templates available on CodeCanyon. It can take a while for you to find one that meets all your needs. The following tips will help you pick the right template quickly. 1. Searching for TemplatesYou can always just check each template one by one. However, starting with a basic idea of the type of game you want to create will give you a head start when selecting a template. You can also filter the games by use of tags included by developers. For example, you can search for 2D arcade games. 2. Think About MonetizationThe next thing you want to do is decide your ultimate plan for the game. Most people who are creating games usually run ads to earn revenue. You can get a game with AbMob integration to do this. Another nice idea is strategic product placement within the game. This can be achieved by editing the sprites to add company logo and product. You should look for games that have editable sprites if you want to go down this path. Free Android Game TemplatesYou can also find some free Android game templates by searching for them on GitHub. However, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. These free game templates are more suited for learning purposes than for being made into commercial apps. There is also a good chance that they won't be updated regularly, making it hard for you to take advantage of latest developments in Android gaming ecosystem. Here are a few free Android game templates to help you get started. 11. Memory GameThis is a very basic memory game for kids with three different themes an six difficulty levels. It does not have any integration for ads or other complicated screens. 12. Android ChessThis is a chess game developed using Java. It comes with a lot of useful features like training mode for beginners, online and offline mode, and chess puzzles. The graphics are pretty simple and there is no integration for ads. 13. IonicMathGameThis is a very basic Maths game based on the Ionic framework. Users have to mark the correct answers in time to score points. 14. Casual ChessCasual chess is developed using Ionic and Firebase. It allows you to invite your friends to play a chess game with you by sharing a link. It does not implement any other fancy features and comes with a very basic UI. 15. 2048 AndroidThis is an Android port for the 2048 game. It basically consists of a WebView that loads locally stored HTML files of the game. ConclusionIf there's one thing Android users can't get enough of, it's new games that are fun and beautiful. That's probably why a majority of the top-grossing apps on Google Play are games. Indeed, if you are a budding Android developer looking to find success on Google Play, creating a new game is your best bet. I hope you use one of the Android game templates you learned about in this article to kickstart the development of your next game. Put one of these templates to use right now, or check out some of the other game templates available on CodeCanyon. How to Set Goals With No Room For Excuses in 2021 Posted: 23 Dec 2020 05:55 AM PST Business plans are notorious for being bland, uninspiring and filled with business jargon. There's no real reason for them to be this way, other than tradition. For bigger businesses, it can also be what their bank and lawyer requires (those legal and financial types love jargon-ese). But for freelancers, bootstrappers, and microbusinesses, your business plan is written primarily for you. It's about giving you the motivation and energy to get up in the morning and do what it takes to make your business into a success story. If your business plan is worth the paper it's written on, it will set out what you aim to achieve in your business. In other words, your business plan must include your business goals. When business goals are bland, uninspiring, or filled with jargon, they're all too easy to ignore. When they appear irrelevant to the day-to-day running of your business, then they're not going to help you in the way that they should. If your goals aren't written in a way that engages you, not only will you ignore them. You'll find all kinds of excuses for failing to achieve them. Excuses such as:
All these excuses beg the question: what's the point of goals if you're not concerned about achieving them? In this article, I'll show you how to write goals that leave no room for excuses. Goals should be the guiding light of your business that inspire and influence your work every day. If they're vague, unrealistic, or tucked away in storage, they're not going to do your business much good. 1. Before You StartWherever you're at with your business, you can benefit from writing down your goals. Whether you're just starting your business, or you've been trading for years, setting out your goals can make your business more effective and successful. That said, before you begin, it's a good idea to have laid the right foundations. Step 1: Bottle Your Business PassionYou can bottle your business passion by writing an elevator pitch for your business. Your elevator pitch gives you a general idea of what your business is about, and what you're aiming to achieve with your business. In other words, it's the goal posts that frame all your other goals. It also means your goals will be pointed towards what gives you buzz and energy in business. Step 2: Uncover Your Business ValuesTogether with your elevator pitch, your business values provide a framework in which to set your business goals. By identifying your values before you set your goals, you'll avoid the pitfall of setting goals that go against your values, thus sabotaging your business. Step 3: Set Yourself a Broad TargetBefore getting into the nitty-gritty of writing an effective goal, write out your business goals in broad sweeps. Don't worry for now about whether these goals are achievable, we'll come to that later. It's about getting an idea of the general direction of your goals. For example, you might want to:
For now, you're just trying to get an overall picture of where you're headed. 2. Get SMARTOnce you've got your elevator pitch, business values and general goals in place, you're ready to start making your goals SMART. The mnemonic SMART is a tool for creating goals that have a real impact on the day-to-day running of your business, and leave no room for excuses. SMART goals are:
Step 1: Get Specific About Your GoalsYou've got an overall picture of what you want to achieve. Let's drill down into these goals and get specific about them. Let's take the example of a goal to increase your sales figures. To get more specific, ask why, what and how. In asking why, look behind the reason for wanting to increase your sales figures. You may discover that what really matters is boosting your profit. Making more sales is a good way to do this, but as you're being specific, it's a good idea at looking for other ways to boost your profit, such as cutting costs. Next, ask what. In our example: What do you want to increase your sales figures of? Do you want to go across the board with all your products? Or focus on your most profitable products or bestsellers? Finally, ask how. The question here is "how do I make this goal happen" or "what do I need to do to make this happen?" By asking this question, you break your goal down into sub-goals, which are naturally more specific. For example, in aiming to increase your sales, you might include goals of:
And so on. The point is to get as specific as possible. Some of the specific goals you'll run with, and some you won't. For now, just note them down. Step 2: Make Your Goals MeasurableIf it's impossible to know when you've achieved a goal, then it's not worth having the goal at all. That's why smart goals are measurable. With measurable goals, you can crunch the numbers to see when you've hit the target. Going back to the example of increasing sales, to make the goal measurable, you must state how much you want to increase sales by. So the goal might become "increase sales by 25%". Sub-goals should also be measurable. Following our subgoals above: how much more traffic do you want to your site? How many more conversions do you want? Knowing which figures to set can be tricky. We'd all like to boost sales by a thousand times, but that might not be possible! We'll look at that in the next step. Step 3: Are Your Goals Attainable?Setting impossible goals isn't really goal setting. It's writing down your aspirations or dreams. To keep yourself accountable on your goals, you've got to make sure they're attainable. Continuing the example of increasing sales, you can ask yourself:
The point is to base your goals on what you've achieved in the past, and what other businesses in a similar position have achieved. That way, you know your goals are attainable. Some of these questions you can answer yourself. For others you'll need to turn to trusted advisers for assistance, which is where your Mastermind Group comes in handy. Step 4: Inject a Does of RealitySMART goals are realistic. They're realistic in that they're attainable, as you learned in the previous step. But they're also realistic in that you have the energy, resources and motivation to achieve them. The following questions help to inject a dose of reality into your goal setting:
This step is the biggest secret behind creating business goals that leave no room for excuses. Don't overly curtail your ambition, but be honest with yourself about what is possible for you to achieve. Step 5: Establish a TimeframeSo far, you've made your goals specific, measurable, attainable and realistic. There's one problem. As things stand, you've got forever to make your goals happen. Let's say, having injected a dose of reality to your goal, that you're planning to increase sales by 10%. When are you planning to do that by? Within the next month? Within a year? Within ten years? Unless your goal is time-bound, it's not really a goal. It's just a hope that what you want will happen "someday". So, bearing in mind that you've got to keep your goal attainable and realistic, set a time frame for your goal. 3. Don't Stop at SMARTSMART goals are a great way of setting targets for your business. But they're not the be-all and end-all of goal setting. Step 1: Have SMART Your WaySMART goals are a tool to get you writing effective goals and motivated to succeed in business. SMART is not a one-size-fits-all tool, nor is it suitable for everyone. That said, the process of setting SMART goals is not set in stone. You can adjust SMART so it works for your business. One way of doing this is to adjust the definitions, which can encompass (but isn't limited to) the following:
Step 2: Get SMARTERSMARTER goals are goals that are evaluated and re-evaluated. There's no point in goals if you're not checking whether you've achieved them. What's more, when you evaluate your goals, you may need to adjust the goals you've set to be more realistic and attainable, or set new goals if you've already attained the ones you set previously. Your business plan should be a document that evolves with your business. As your business grows, your business plan and your goals grow with you. They're there with you for the journey, as your guiding light. Editorial Note: This content was originally published in November of 2013. Check out this collection of trends, styles, and design tips. They can help you further narrow down your choice with some added design inspiration. 1. Use a Pop of Consistent, Bold ColorColor can be a powerful addition to any design, especially if the designer is strategic with its usage. Check out this example premium template below. Notice how the design itself is largely grayscale, but the yellow is added as a signature color. The yellow in the example is bold and really stands out. It's also used similarly for emphasis and interest, throughout the whole presentation. We begin to associate the yellow not only with the presentation, but also with the brand. In this case, color is used as a strong, unifying element. Curious about what color might be best for your presentation or brand? Check out this free tutorial for even more insights. 2. Try Out a Soft, Organic Design AestheticSoft, neutral colors can make for a stylish aesthetic. Check out this premium PowerPoint design template, below. It also mixes up the rectangular nature of the slides with a rounded background. When thinking about your aesthetic, remember: colors are communicative. For example, does this color scheme look exciting to you? These softer colors are likely better paired with keywords like soothing, relaxing, and comfortable. For an exciting look, it might be a stronger idea to stick with more saturated colors. 3. Create a Sleek, Stylish, Modern Design With Space and ColorRemember not to pack your designs too tightly. Leave "breathing room" for your content if you'd like to work with saturated, energetic elements like the gradient we see in the premium PowerPoint template below. Want to learn more about color combinations and check out some other color schemes for inspiration? Check out this free tutorial: In the example below, color is used in an interesting way. We've got a rather saturated gradient. It's used throughout the presentation to help establish visual consistency. Color makes a great repeating element at the bottom of the page. But it also works well for other supplements on other slides too. Check out this aesthetic. It's some web influence, doesn't it? Notice all the clean, white space. 4. Draw Inspiration From Other MediaJust because you're designing for PowerPoint doesn't mean you can only draw inspiration from other PowerPoint slides. Take a look at other media too—like websites, magazines, and more. For example, check out the stylish aesthetic in this PowerPoint design template, below. Many slides resemble an aesthetic we might associate with a trendy magazine spread. When looking for inspiration, consider gathering many examples to help narrow down the perfect aesthetic for you. This can be a great way to explore your options before committing to a single aesthetic. 5. Push for a Professional, Consistent AestheticOne of the most important (and timeless) design elements you can embrace in your work is visual consistency. The premium PowerPoint template below is a strong, straight forward example. Notice how the aesthetic backgrounds here are stylish and fun. You could mix and match these colors with your own brand's color scheme. The key here is consistency. Notice how all the slides look related because they share this design element in common. It rather works like the way a footer would—cool, right? Want to learn more about design principles that can help you push your presentations further?
